Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use insurance to pay for expressive arts groups and workshops?

No. Because the expressive arts groups and workshops are not using a medical model where you are diagnosed with a mental illness, with an established medical necessity and a required treatment plan, insurance will not cover them. These groups are therapeutic but not therapy.

Can I participate in groups if I am already receiving individual therapy?

Yes. Expressive arts groups and workshops are a wonderful compliment to individual therapy. However, it is not required that you engage in individual therapy to participate.

How will my confidentiality be protected?

Each group member will be asked to protect everyone’s confidentiality in the group by not sharing personal information that they hear in groups or workshops. Participants can choose how much or how little they feel comfortable sharing with no pressure from the group members or the facilitator.

What if I am not an artist?

No art experience or talent is required to participate. Often it is better if participants have no artistic training because then they are free to express without the inner dialog that says the product should look a certain way. The goal of these groups is more about the process of working with art materials in the group and not so much about what it looks like at the end.
